First post: Another Breeders' Cup...

As usual, I took the day off work and spent it in front of the TV.

I think my handicapping went pretty well. I had the first or second place finisher (sometimes both) in every race aside from the Mile (ouch. But, hey, Singletary has run at Bay Meadows. Local boy.)

Thoughts:

They made the right decision running Azeri in the Classic. Fifth gets a check. Fifth ahead of a Derby/Preakness winner and a Belmont winner is not bad at all. And after all, she's already won the Distaff.

And, speaking of, did Island Fashion get a bad ride, or what? Luckily I had Ashado...

Speightstown really is that good. I knew that.

So is Ghostzapper. I didn't know that.

I'm a bit disappointed in Funny Cide, but maybe the hot weather was to blame.

And speaking of horses, I am furious about Silver Charm being sold to Japan. Yeah, Bob Lewis says they made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Hello? The guy is a millionaire at least? The guy is on a TV ad for private jet service saying he can't understand why anybody would fly any other way?

No, the fact is that Charm, who was one of the best racehorses of the 90's or of the 2000's so far for that matter, hasn't sired precocious flash in the pan two-year-olds and hasn't sired expensive yearlings. So that's all the chance he gets, after only two crops have raced.

I think it sucks.

But the Cup, as ever, was wonderful to see.

More later on the other things in my life: writing, birdwatching, and ever on.
